Our new blog

Welcome to the 21st century, Gibson's Bookstore! I'll be posting here as frequently as possible with book reviews, idle musings, and literary conversation starters. The emphasis will be on books both new and classic and on the literary scene in Concord, New Hampshire. I hope you'll join in.

So, if anyone finds their way to this blog (if only by accident), please tell us what the best book you've read lately might be.

In my opinion, this book should be on everyone's reading list.

John, thanks for inaugurating our comments section! The book you mention is the follow-up to the bestseller Affluenza and is definitely worth a look. Thanks--

I just finished reading "Heat," by Bill Buson, a peek into Mario Batali's kitchen and Italian cooking that's enlightening and hilarious.

Hey, Barbara, I really liked Heat a lot. Just the boot-camp aspects of it were so comical and harrowing at the same time. It certainly cured me of any desires I might have had to work in a busy commercial kitchen. But the loving descriptions of great food and how it is made make Heat an easy book to recommend. ..There are so many wonderful new "armchair chef" books now. Anthony Bourdain, Ruth Reichl, lots more, they're thick on the ground now.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Barbara has conflated the author of Heat with the author of A Walk in the Woods. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often! Buford, Bryson, and both are Bill.
